Study Concludes Success of Acupuncture in Treating Chronic Lower Back Pain

Many individuals seem to have their reservations when it comes to whether or an alternative method of medicine can actually make a difference when it comes to some of their greatest aliments – like chronic back pain. While studies for the effectiveness of acupuncture on back pain have been scattered across the board, we have seen a great number of success cases and we know one particular organization that would encourage pain sufferers to give it a try.

According to a document published by the North American Spine Society (NASS), “A number of conditions, including back pain are commonly treated with acupuncture. […] A study published in 2006 demonstrated that acupuncture was effective in relieving pain in patients with chronic low back pain”

The study that is referenced by the NASS was called, Acupuncture in Patients with Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial. After the trial was completed with a total of 298 patients, it was concluded that “acupuncture was more effective in improving pain than no acupuncture treatment in patients with chronic low back pain.”

For those who suffer from this type of severe pain, it would be extremely beneficial to explore different solutions that are available. Currently recognized as a form of alternative medicine, acupuncture may not be a treatment that you think of right from the start, but it can help to reduce your daily chronic back pain, whether it be independently or as an aid.

As stated by NASS, “depending on your back problem, your physician may recommend acupuncture either alone or in conjunction with other treatments, such as medications, physical therapy or exercise.” We encourage you to speak with your regular physician as well as your acupuncturist to determine the best course of action for your specific condition.
